The world was saved by a newer Minecraft
What it looks like in your log
The world was saved with a newer version of minecraft! 3953 > 3700
What causes it
This server is older than the one that last saved the world. Minecraft does not downgrade worlds.
How to fix it
Run the same or newer server version, or restore the backup taken before the upgrade.
Why it happens
Every world records the data version of the game that last saved it. A server older than that refuses to open the world, because it does not know the block, entity and chunk formats the newer version wrote. Minecraft upgrades worlds forward on load and never downgrades them.
This happens after someone opened the world in a newer client or server, even once, even just to look. The server that used to run it is now too old.
Fix it step by step
- 1Run the version that saved it, or newerThe two numbers in the message are data versions; the larger one is the world's. Update the server to at least the game version that has it.
- 2Or restore the pre-upgrade backupIf you need to stay on the older version, the only way back is a backup taken before the world was opened by the newer game. Nothing converts a world downward.
- 3Check mods and plugins can followMoving the server up means every mod and plugin needs a build for the new version. Do that before opening the world, or you will be back here with a crash instead of a refusal.
- 4Stop it happening againDo not open a live world in a client or a test server on a newer version. Copy it first.
