Palworld server clustering: the honest state of it

Is there server clustering in Palworld 1.0? Not in any usable form. Here is what actually shipped, why the pre-launch talk did not pan out, and what to do instead.

If you came here after reading that Palworld 1.0 adds server clustering, this page is the reality check. The short version: it is not something you can set up today, on Hostd or anywhere else, and we would rather tell you that plainly than sell you a feature that does not work yet.

What actually shipped

There was a lot of pre-launch talk, ours included, about clustering being a 1.0 headline for hosts. When the update landed, the picture was different. The dedicated server binary appears to carry some early groundwork for linking servers, but there is no supported way to configure a cluster: no documented settings, nothing in PalWorldSettings.ini, and no mention of it anywhere in the official 1.0 server docs. Every host that promised clustering on launch day is in the same position. Until Pocketpair ship real configuration and document it, clustering is not a thing you can turn on.

We will update this page the moment that changes. If clustering becomes real, this is where the working setup will live.

What you can do instead right now

Most groups who want "clustering" actually want one of two things, and both are doable today.

Run separate servers and move your Pals between them. Deploy a second Palworld server from your dashboard like any other. To carry Pals across, enable the global Palbox in both server configs:

bAllowGlobalPalboxExport=True
bAllowGlobalPalboxImport=True

With those on, a player can deposit a Pal into the global Palbox on one server and withdraw it on the other. Your character and inventory do not transfer this way, only Pals, but for most communities that is the piece that matters. Details on editing the config are in Tuning Palworld world settings.

Split a busy community by theme rather than by link. A separate PvE building server and PvP server, each sized properly, gets you the practical benefit people expect from clustering without waiting on a feature that is not here. The PvP setup guide covers running one alongside your main world.

If you are here for performance

Sometimes "I need a cluster" really means "one server is struggling under my community". That is a sizing question, not a clustering one, and it has an answer today. A single Palworld world can hold a lot before it strains, and where it strains is usually CPU under heavy base automation. How much RAM does a Palworld 1.0 server need? walks through matching the plan to the load. On Hostd the resources on your plan are hard-reserved rather than shared out across a busy node, so sizing up actually moves the ceiling.
